The unsung hero of your home is your shower. It’s warm, inviting, cleans you up, listens to your singing (without judgment) & everyone can use it. The expectation is for our showers to perform every day without question, how we want, when we want, for as long as we want. Unfortunately, there isn’t a ‘self-cleaning’ shower button – yet! So, to keep your trusty shower reliable, it needs your help – Maintenance.
Our team has seen it all, from showers that look like a kid’s lunchbox that’s been forgotten about over the Christmas holidays, to showers that look like they have never been used. The thing they all have in common is they NEED maintenance.
In tip 6 we gave the example of 9000 minutes of showering per year, after 3 years that’s getting close to 30,000 minutes. Imagine if 1 minute in your shower was the equivalent of driving 1 km in your car. Now consider you drove your car for 30,000 kms without any servicing or maintenance, what happens? Most of us believe our showers will last 20 years without having to do anything, if that was your car it would’ve driven 180,000 kms! Even a Toyota corolla with one careful lady owner would have trouble achieving that milestone.
Just to recap on what maintenance you can do at home is:
Daily:
- Squeegee of excess water after showering is completed on walls and glass doors.
- Crack the door open to ventilate after showering is completed.
- Ventilate your bathroom whilst showering.
Weekly:
- Clean out the shower waste and trap.
- Wash shower enclosure with dish washing liquid with a soft cloth – then Squeegee.
- Change shower head angle.
Monthly:
- Clean off / out mould (all colours) off the shower enclosure.
- Check shower slide and mixer.
- Check waste pressure / temperature
- Check, remove and clean shower seals
